Home / Depression Treatment
Depression affects over 21 million American adults each year — and is one of the most treatable mental health conditions.
Depression is much more than feeling sad. It is a medical condition that affects how you think, feel, and function every day. Without treatment, depression can worsen and last for months or years. With the right care, most people see significant improvement.
DLH Consulting provides expert depression evaluation and treatment including medication management, coordination with therapists, and ongoing monitoring to help you find the right treatment plan.
Depression warrants professional attention when low mood, loss of interest, or other symptoms persist for two weeks or more and interfere with your ability to work, maintain relationships, or care for yourself. You should seek help immediately if you are having thoughts of suicide or self-harm — call 988 or go to your nearest emergency room. Other warning signs include significant changes in sleep or appetite, inability to get out of bed or perform basic daily tasks, feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness, and withdrawing from people and activities you used to enjoy. Depression is not a character flaw or a sign of weakness. It is a medical condition with effective treatments, and most people feel significantly better with the right care.
Depression treatment at DLH Consulting begins with a thorough psychiatric evaluation to accurately diagnose the type of depression you are experiencing and rule out medical or medication-related causes. Our PMHNPs have extensive experience with antidepressant medication management, including SSRIs, SNRIs, bupropion, mirtazapine, and augmentation strategies for treatment-resistant depression. We also offer GeneSight pharmacogenomic testing, which analyzes how your genes affect your response to psychiatric medications. This can help identify the most effective antidepressant for you with fewer side effects, reducing the trial-and-error process. We coordinate care with therapists and your primary care provider to ensure a comprehensive approach to your recovery.
Your initial evaluation is 60 minutes. If antidepressant medication is recommended, most medications take 4-6 weeks to reach full effectiveness. We schedule a follow-up within 4 weeks of starting a new medication to assess your response. Depression treatment is not a quick fix — it is a process. Some patients need medication adjustments or switches before finding the right fit. On average, patients begin to notice meaningful improvement within 6-12 weeks. We stay with you through this process, adjusting your treatment plan until we find what works for you. Telehealth is available for all depression treatment services.
Our intake coordinator will reach out within 2 business days of receiving your completed intake forms.

Sadness is a normal emotion that passes, usually in response to a specific event. Depression is a persistent condition lasting weeks or months, affecting your ability to function, eat, sleep, and enjoy life — often without a clear cause.
Yes. GeneSight testing analyzes how your genes affect your response to psychiatric medications. This can help your provider choose the most effective antidepressant for you with fewer side effects, reducing the trial-and-error process.
It is common for medications to become less effective over time. Your provider can adjust your dose, switch medications, add an augmenting agent, or explore other treatment options. Never stop medication abruptly without consulting your provider.
Yes. Depression is covered under mental health parity laws, meaning insurers must cover it at the same level as physical health conditions. MassHealth, Medicare, and most commercial plans cover outpatient depression treatment.
Both are effective. Moderate-to-severe depression often responds best to a combination of medication and therapy. Your PMHNP will evaluate your symptoms, history, and preferences to recommend the most appropriate approach.
