Information about the No Surprises Act and your protections against unexpected billing
Effective January 1, 2022, the No Surprises Act (the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (Public Law 116-260)) provides new federal protections against surprise medical billing. This law gives you important rights when receiving healthcare services.
When you receive healthcare services, you are protected from:
If you receive emergency services, you can't be charged more than your in-network copayment, coinsurance, or deductible, regardless of whether the provider or facility is in-network or out-of-network. You also can't be balance billed for these emergency services.
For scheduled (non-emergency) services at in-network facilities, you're protected from balance billing by out-of-network providers who may be involved in your care (such as an anesthesiologist or radiologist) unless you've given written consent to waive your protections.
If you don't have health insurance or choose not to use your insurance, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" of the cost of your care before your appointment. This estimate should include the expected charges for all items and services related to your care.
At DLH Consulting & Psychiatric Services, we are committed to transparent pricing and ensuring our patients understand the cost of their care. We provide Good Faith Estimates to all uninsured and self-pay patients and are happy to discuss the cost of services at any time.
