Schizophrenia & Psychosis Treatment in Dartmouth, MA

Schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders are serious but treatable conditions. At DLH Consulting & Psychiatric Services in Dartmouth, MA, our board-certified PMHNPs provide compassionate outpatient medication management and monitoring for individuals living with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and other psychotic disorders — supporting stability and quality of life.

Conditions We Treat

Schizophrenia — a chronic disorder involving positive symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking), negative symptoms (flat affect, social withdrawal, reduced motivation), and cognitive symptoms (memory, attention, executive function difficulties).

Schizoaffective Disorder — a combination of schizophrenia symptoms and significant mood disorder symptoms (depressive or bipolar type). Both components require treatment.

Brief Psychotic Disorder and Schizophreniform Disorder — shorter-duration psychotic episodes that may or may not progress to schizophrenia.

Psychosis related to mood disorders — major depression with psychotic features and bipolar disorder with psychotic features.

Delusional Disorder — persistent delusions without other prominent psychotic symptoms.

Our Role

DLH Consulting provides stable, ongoing outpatient psychiatric care for individuals with schizophrenia and related disorders who are not in acute crisis. We focus on medication management and monitoring, working collaboratively with case managers, community mental health providers, and primary care to support overall stability and wellness.

Treatment Options

Antipsychotic medications are the foundation of treatment. Second-generation (atypical) antipsychotics — including risperidone, olanzapine (Zyprexa), quetiapine (Seroquel), aripiprazole (Abilify), paliperidone (Invega), lurasidone (Latuda), and clozapine — are commonly used. Long-acting injectable (LAI) formulations are available for patients who benefit from depot medication and improved adherence. Clozapine remains the most effective option for treatment-resistant schizophrenia and requires regular blood monitoring (ANC monitoring program). Our PMHNPs coordinate with labs for all required monitoring.
